Man Charged With Possession of Handgun, Hollow-Point Bullets

A Red Bank man was arrested in the early morning hours Saturday after police said they found him in possession of a handgun and hollow point bullets during a disturbance with neighbors.

According to a police report, Red Bank Police were on regular patrol and investigating a disturbance on Hudson Avenue when they found Andrew Makuch pointing a Heckler and Koch model 45-caliber handgun at nearby residents. Makuch, 25, was also found to be in possession of hollow-point bullets during the investigation.

Hollow-point bullets are designed to expand when they hit their target, causing significant tissue damage and blood loss when compared to regular bullets. It is illegal for New Jersey residents to purchase hollow-point bullets.

Makuch, a resident of the first block of Hudson Avenue, was charged with possession of a handgun for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of hollow-point bullets. It was not immediately clear what prompted the disturbance or if any other arrests were made in connection with the incident.

Makuch was ordered held at Monmouth County Correctional Institute in Freehold on $58,500 bail with no 10 percent option. He is slated to appear in front of a Monmouth County Superior Court Judge on Thursday.
