RBR Shares its Bounty with Lunch Break

Lunch Break — the well-known haven in Red Bank where those in need can get some good sustenance ladled with care — has been around for 30 years now.

It's a widely known fact that the organization has spearheaded a summer program to collect and distribute fresh garden vegetables and herbs, brought by neighbors all over the area, so that patrons can reap the seasonal benefits of fresh, healthy foods.

Red Bank Regional High School students have done their part in cultivating an organic garden and contributing the produce it had yielded to the organization. Recently, RBR's culinary students, who tend the garden, got some of their summer bounty from late August and early September over to the Lunch Break, according to the RBR blog.

“Several years ago we planted an organic garden to use fresh produce in our fall recipes and freeze and store staples for the winter month," teacher Pete Roskowinski said in the blog. "As in the past, our student volunteers came to the campus early to harvest and deliver fruits and vegetables to our friends at Lunch Break.”

The students provided tomatoes, honeydew melon, watermelon, cherry bomb and bell peppers, jalapeño peppers, eggplant, collard greens and basil, the blog said.
