Red Bank Council Notes: Conflict Prompts Schedule Change

Council approved a schedule switch Monday night to accommodate Councilman Mike DuPont's work conflict.

Adjust your schedules accordingly, Red Bank Borough Council meetings are moving to Wednesday nights.

The measure was approved at the council’s Monday meeting, apparently the last one they’ll have for some time, with a 6-0 vote. The only council member who wasn’t available for a vote was Mike DuPont because, well, he’s kind of the problem here.

DuPont was recently appointed borough attorney in Sayreville, Middlesex County, Mayor Pasquale Menna said following the meeting. Sayreville just happens to host council meetings on the same day.

Well, they used to.

With nothing in the way of public discussion before its vote, the council approved the move and went on with its business.

The issue was brought up at an earlier council meeting this month. DuPont asked his fellow members to consider rescheduling council meetings so he could avoid the likely time conflict.

Red Bank’s council was game. The meetings will be held at the same time, 6:30pm.

In other news, Menna said Kaboom! Fireworks Committee has asked that it be allowed to charge a $10 entrance fee for its July 3 fireworks show. The fee would apply to those who want to watch the display from three public properties: Marine Park, Riverside Gardens, and the Red Bank Public Library.

Though the idea of charging to watch fireworks – this is the first time the show won’t be free if it’s approved – was brought up at meetings earlier this year, a dollar figure had yet to be attached.

The go ahead to charge a fee appeared to hinge on Kaboom’s payment of bills for public services rendered at last year’s event, as by Red Bank-Shrewsbury Patch.

Any fee will require council approval. As for now, it’s still being discussed, Menna said.
