Longtime Red Bank Doctor, Eugene Cantor, Dies; Services Slated for Tuesday
Funeral service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Congregation B'nai Israel, Rumson.
Dr. Eugene Cantor, a longtime Red Bank obstetrician/gynecologist, died at his Fair Haven home on Saturday after a brave fight with cancer.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Cantor graduated from Syracuse University and earned his medical degree in 1955 from New York Medical College. He then completed an internship at the University of Chicago in 1956.
Before continuing with his residency, Dr. Cantor served as a lieutenant in the medical corp. as the ship's doctor for the flagship of the sixth fleet in the United States Navy. After his service in the Navy, Dr. Cantor completed his training and started practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Red Bank.
Over the course of his thirty-seven year career Dr. Cantor delivered thousands of children and even the grandchildren of some of his patients. After retiring in 1997, he continued to serve the community while volunteering at Our Lady of Providence Clinic in Neptune, and the Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank.
Dr. Cantor enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, boating, playing golf, and collecting and repairing clocks. He was a longtime member of Congregation B'nai Israel in Rumson and an enthusiastic member of the B'nai Israel Congregation Choir and enjoyed many years of membership at Monmouth Beach Club with his family.
He is predeceased by a son Stephen. He is survived by: his wife Maria; sister Suzanne Adams: children, Claudia Francello, Jeff Cantor and wife Sharon, Pam Cantor, Karen Arnold husband Dan, Adam Cantor, Rebecca Cantor-Chaplin, Dr. Michael Cantor and wife Sarah; ten grandchildren; and his spoiled dogs Archie and Joey.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Congregation B'Nai Israel, Rumson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean Township is in charge of arrangements.
