Shrewsbury House Crash Severs Gas Line

An unidentified driver crashed into the side of his neighbor's house while attempting to pull into his own driveway.

A resident of the 100 block of Monroe Avenue in Shrewsbury crashed into the side of his neighbor’s home severing a gas line while pulling into his own driveway just after midnight Friday morning.

The unidentified man was apparently uninjured, but was arrested shortly after police arrived on scene. declined to provide the driver’s name or say what, if anything, he was charged with pending the conclusion of its investigation.

Though damage to the home and the large sports utility vehicle that hit it were minimal, the driver hit his neighbor’s gas meter in the accident, severing the line and causing a leak, according to Shrewsbury firefighters on the scene who described the hissing noise they heard after arriving to assist.

New Jersey Natural Gas was called to turn off the gas to the home to prevent the risk of explosion. A tow truck extracted the vehicle shortly before 1 a.m. as firefighters and the homeowner inspected the damage to the house.
