St. Patty's (Paddy's) Day Brings Out the Crowds

Beautiful weather combined with Red Bank's downtown saw hundreds, if not thousands, flock to local watering holes Saturday night.

In Ireland he would most definitely have been Padraig, hence "Paddy" to anyone presuming to be on familiar terms with him.

Though St. Patty and St. Paddy's seem to be interchangeable in America media, the former is the inaccurate, despite its proliferation. Good to know!

It started soon after the sun broke over Monmouth Street. Hundreds of revelers decked out in green shirts, green hats, green sunglasses, and green jewelery, began pouring out of cars and alley ways and into local watering holes throughout Red Bank.

Thanks to perfect daytime weather and the draw of good old St. Patrick's Day, the borough was packed all day Saturday. From the to and all points in between, bars serving Guinness and restaurants serving corned beef and cabbage were packed to the brim throughout the day.

None saw larger crowds than the , which offered two beer gardens and even a tent and heaters in its large front courtyard to help keep patrons warm as the day turned to night. Hundreds of people packed the Irish pub, Red Bank's most popular St. Patrick's Day destination, according to Patch readers, from early Saturday to late at night.

And though an undisclosed incident - didn't have a report of what, if anything happened Sunday - brought out a couple of squad cars and two ambulances to the bar, the party refused to quit until early Sunday morning.
