Voyagers' Pokemon Go Party Builds Community
50 or more Pokemon players began hunting for Rattata, Pikachu, Oddish and other nefarious characters at Voyagers' Community School
It was a warm and clear evening, with a slight breeze, when 50 or more Pokemon players and their parents began hunting for Rattata, Pikachu, Oddish and other nefarious characters. Corey, age 13, an Eatontown resident, generously dropped the first lure. Voyagers' Community School dropped many more during this three hour event.
While some believe that playing Pokemon Go is an isolating experience, the players in the Voyagers' Community Schoolyard proved otherwise. Many new friendships were made. When not sharing tips and successful captures children hula hooped, played checkers on the life-size outdoor board, climbed trees and chatted. As dusk approached, a drawing for Pokemon paraphernalia, began. Jake, Voyagers' Class of 2021, won a set of four movies. A deluxe handbook was won by Cameron also in the class of 2021 and a 144 piece action figure set won by Corey. The evening closed under the stars, with Pokemon snacks and the showing of a movie on the oversized outdoor screen.
Sounds like fun? Look for announcements of upcoming free activities for children which are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Also, be on the look out for another Pokemon Go Party and more movies on the Voyagers' Community School lawn in the coming weeks. For more information visit www.voyagerscommunityschool.org.
