A couple of mini-entrepreneurs have been cleaning up with a new venture and a business plan that’s as solid as a, well, you’ll see. Proud pa TJ Brustowicz said his kids, Jack and Abby, have made more than a $100 selling hand painted rocks in the past few days. Middletown resident Joseph M. Kyrillos Jr. is making a run for the U.S. Senate he announced recently at the Lincroft Inn. The New Jersey senator is looking to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez in the upcoming race. Kyrillos said some of his goals are being a champion for small business and bringing fiscal austerity to Washington, D.C. The 51 year old’s political career began in 1988 when he served as an assemblyman for District 13. He was elected to the state senate in 1993 where he has served ever since.

For the fourth year, students from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School will be spending their spring breaks helping to build homes for Habitat for Humanity. The crew of 24 students will be heading to Wilmington, Del., in April where they’ll not only get their hands dirty, but will spend time discussing their challenges and experience and reflecting on the project. Trip advisor Tara Bufis said there are easier ways for students to impress their friends and colleges. These kids are more interested in making a difference and making the world a better place.

New Jersey’s tough, new anti-bullying law could be gone just as soon as it had taken off. After being instituted at the start of the school year, the thorough Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (or HIB) Law was recently deemed unconstitutional by a state committee that found the burden placed on state school districts too significant. In Red Bank, the district has done all it can to follow the letter of the law, despite the strains put on its staff. If the bill goes away, it still will have left its mark Superintendent Laura Morana said the staff, students, and parents have become more aware of bullying and how to fight it thanks to the law. Red Bank’s also seen the rise of a student-led anti-bullying squad called ABS aimed at preventing harassment among students.
