A meter maid parked his cart in a Monmouth Street spot but forgot to pay the meter.

On a stroll down Monmouth Street Wednesday afternoon we stumbled upon a parking Authority cart parked in a premium street spot with the parking meter reading a big fat zero.

If you’re a regular in Red Bank you know that these parking carts, often seen cruising around municipal parking lots, mean trouble. Don’t ever forget to plug plenty of quarters into the meter or you’ll be the recipient of for the borough each year.

Patch waited around to ask the driver of the cart, one of three meter maids employed by the , if parking in a spot and not feeding the meter was copasetic for borough employees, but alas, no one showed after a good 15 minutes of standing around. For what it’s worth, permit parking is not prohibited on Monmouth Street, either.

We called Department of Public Works Director Gary Watson, the main man in charge of the parking utility, for a verdict but unfortunately he was not in the office Wednesday.

So at the moment we’re only left to wonder: is this right?
