16-Year-Old Robbed Bergen County Gas Station Near Route 4: Prosecutors
A teen in a mask and hooded sweatshirt robbed a Bergen County gas station before 5 a.m., prosecutors say.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 16-year-old Bergen County resident has been charged with robbing an area gas station around 4:45 a.m. earlier this month, prosecutors announced Friday.
The teen has been charged with armed robbery, weapons offenses, and theft, said the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutors said that on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, officers from the River Edge Police Department responded to an armed robbery at a gas station on Hackensack Avenue in River Edge.

Investigators determined that the suspect — wearing a mask and hooded sweatshirt — "approached the employee of the gas station and displayed a handgun that was tucked in the waistband of his pants."
The teen demanded money that was in the cash register and on the victim’s person. He fled with several hundred dollars, prosecutors said.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the River Edge Police Department "located the juvenile in Bergen County, took him into custody, and executed a court authorized search warrant at his residence," prosecutors said.
The specific charges were first-degree armed robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree theft.
The teen was placed in the custody of the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center to await further action by Bergen County Superior Court Family Law Division, prosecutors said.
