Controversial Developments on Planning Board's Agenda

School board, neighbors have expressed concern with two downtown housing developments

Two big development proposals that have wrought a series of concerns from the school board on enrollment increases and neighbors worried of traffic influx will be featured at Tuesday's planning board meeting.

("The Dayton") at the site of Brogan Cadillac on S. Broad St. expressing concern traffic would worsen should the proposal be approved. Board members have also commented that the proposal is quite large and have inquired on several occasions if there were small plans possible.

Like the Garden Homes project, would require a rezoning under the Master Plan's zoning section. At 52 units, the site near the YMCA is a far smaller proposal and would also have a slightly different wrinkle than its neighboring development– rented townhouses that in the future might be up for sale.

Representatives for both developments contend traffic impacts will be minimal at best; they also say they don't expect much of an uptick in school children moving in, as the units are largely 1-bedroom apartments that appeal to "young, working professional" couples and empty-nesters.

In what could be the most packed planning board agenda in memory, the board will also be working on the , after the council agreed to amend the village code at its last meeting.

It will also discuss making Graydon Pool and The James Rose House listed as historical structures under the eyes of the village Master Plan.

The board will meet on the third floor of at 7:30 p.m.
