How Would You Improve Ridgewood's Website?

Mayor says update to make the website more user-friendly is necessary.

The village's website needs a major facelift, according to Mayor Paul Aronsohn.

At last Wednesday's council work session meeting, Aronsohn said Ridgewood would be exploring a sleeker, more colorful site that's easier to use.

"The village website is something I've been focused on for a while," Aronsohn said. "It's got a lot of great information but for me, it's not user-friendly."

A tinkered site – a draft was handed out at the work session and is attached at right – shows a new homepage with more details on departments, including what their responsibilities are as well as information on staff leaders. There's also information on parking, with policies spelled out and online ticket paying services. A major focus will be providing helpful information for residents as well as FAQs and other content for businesses, Aronsohn said.

The plan includes further use of Swiftreach, an e-mail notification system to alert residents in disaster situations.

Councilwoman Gwenn Hauck suggested more use of pictures on the website. The only picture to be found on the current site is of Village Hall on the main page and the portraits of the five council members. Hauck encouraged local photographers to send shots to officials, and also expressed interest that residents pitch a .

There was no mention of potential costs associated with site overhaul.
