5 People Escape Van Fire In Glen Rock: Police

The van's engine caught on fire while it was traveling on Route 208 North, police said.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — Five people, including two passengers with special needs, escaped from a van after it caught on fire on Harristown Road Thursday afternoon, police said.

The school van stopped in the parking lot of 266 Harristown Road after people inside the van saw smoking coming from the engine, said Sgt. Bryan Scott. The vehicle was on Route 208 North and pulled over.

Workers checked under the hood and noticed that the vehicle caught on fire, Scott said. Everyone safely got out of the van.

No one was hurt, Scott said. Firefighters from Fair Lawn and Glen Rock responded to the blaze. The Bergen County Hazmat Team responded and helped contain gasoline after the fire, he said. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Scott did not specify from which school the people were from.
