Rabbi to Speak at Celebrating the Rhythm and Music of Jewish Life

Temple Avodat Shalom Rabbi Borovitz will be one of 25 area rabbis at the Sweet Tastes of Torah

Rabbi Neal Borovitz, of River Edge, is among more than 25 area rabbis who will be teaching at Sweet Tastes of Torah, a community evening of solidarity, study, discussion, music, and fun.

Held on Saturday February 4, the event is sponsored by the North Jersey Board of Rabbis and supported by the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, and more than two dozen synagogues and learning projects in northern New Jersey.

Rabbi Borovitz will address the Poetry of Debbie Friedman, looking at a selection of her original music as Modern Midrash on our traditional liturgy.

“My focus is on how the late 20th century and early 21st century American Jewish experience impacted Debbie's music and lyrics and how her words and melodies impacted us,” Borovitz said.

Sweet Tastes of Torah, will be held at the , 10-10 Norma Avenue, and begins with a special musical Havdalah (a service marking the end of the Sabbath). Participants will then have the opportunity to choose two of more than 25 one-hour classes. The preliminary program is online at jfnnj.org/sweettorah.

Anyone interested in pre-registering can do so online by Feb. 1 for $15 per person by credit card or mail a check (payable to the North Jersey Board of Rabbis) to 32 Franklin Place, Glen Rock, NJ 07452. If you wish to pay the day of the event, you can do so for $20 (cash or check only).
