O'Reilly Returns for Senior Day Win

Over the weekend, the Hawks and Crusaders took to the court and the ice

River Dell goaltender Connor O'Reilly returning to the ice on Saturday night for Senior Day after having suffered a concussion on January 6. He then led the team for a big 5-1 win over Dumont. 

The Crusaders got a boost on Thursday night when they downed Kennedy 63-58 before heading into the Round of 16 for the Bergen Jamboree. Against the Knights from Paterson, Bergen's PJ Reed and Nadi Beciri led all scorers with 16 and 15 points respectively. Reed then led Bergen into the Jamboree quarterfinals with a pair of free throws to take Wood-Ridge into overtime. BC won 75-68 over the previously unbeaten Blue Devils behind Reed's 17 points and 10 rebounds and Beciri netting 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Golden Hawks were not as lucky on the court, falling 35-34 to Bergenfield on a late quarter basket. While River Dell led early the Bears continued to chip away in the paint behind Kevin Pineda's efforts (14 points).  Tim Barnes led River Dell with 13 points.

In an overtime stunner, the Lady Hawks were upset 40-39 by the Lady Bears from Bergenfield following four quarters of flipping control back and and forth. Kate Brock led all scorers with 20 points, Jordan Bastable had 9 and Cassidy Verrier with 6. Brock and Bastable were not able to hold off a Ridgefield Park onslaught in the Bergen County Tournament when the Scarlets overcame a 15-point deficit to advance 46-42. Brock had 18 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots, while Bastable netted four three-pointers.

River Dell bowling split their Thursday game with Westwood as the girls were shut out 7-0, while the boys dominated in their 7-0 win. Max Barnett had a high series of 655 (248, 213, 204). Scott Kim had a high game of 226.

Crusaders bowling also picked up a 7-0 victory on Thursday over Passaic. Simon Lezaja led Bergen with a high series of 705 (high games 266 and 257) with Charles Long rolling a 636 (high games of 238 and 224). Brian Hund had a high game of 210.

Golden Hawks came out strong on the mat for a 36-30 win over Old Tappan on Friday night behind Dylan Mitchell, DJ Tirelli and Brendan Campbell's pins along with Nick Baranello's technical fall and victories by Danny Lynch, Cenzo Cariddi and Lenny Smith. The team followed up their win over the Golden Knights with a 41-21 victory over Pascack Hills. Mitchell, Tirelli, Lynch, Campbell and Baranello repeated their victories and were bolstered by John McLaughlin, Nick Siegel, and Tyler Kallensee.
