5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 13

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Rain, Rain, Go Away: After wild storms throughout the night, the rain continues. Don't forget your umbrella because the National Weather Service is predicting an 80 percent chance of rain for today. There will be a high around 54 and a low tonight around 44. 

2. Look Who's Running: By 4 p.m. Monday, April 11 all candidates have filed to participate in the upcoming election year. There are two council seats open in both Rumson and Fair Haven. In Rumson, both Republicans, Shaun Broderick and Benjamin Day, are seeking re-election. Philip Wagner, a Democrat, is seeking his first term. Over in Fair Haven, council members Koch and Banahan’s terms expire on December 31, 2011. Councilman Banahan has decided not to run for re-election, but Republican Jerome Koch is seeking re-election. 3. Jordan Osofsky wrote a letter to the mayor requesting a ban on smoking in public parks. She and her family attended the council meeting last night to watch her suggestion officially become a part of a Rumson ordinance. The Rumson Borough Council unanimously approved a change to the Parks and Recreation Area Ordinance to include a regulation that says, “Smoking shall be prohibited in all Borough parks.” Click to learn more about Jordyn and the new addition to the ordinance.

4. RFH Has Got Talent: Head over to the high school auditorium tonight for some fabulous entertainment. Their annual talent show starts at 7:00 p.m. and is stacked with a variety of performers including some of the musical sensations we saw at the . RFH is full of talent so this show is a must-see! Don't miss it!

5. Saving Lives One Drive at a Time: A team from the Central Jersey Blood Center came to  Tuesday night to host a blood drive. The drive was sponsored by the Rumson PTO and president Patricia Quadarella. According to Quadarella, Rumson PTO has been sponsoring blood drives once a year for at least 10 years. This year, they collected over 22 units of blood.
