5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 21

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Under My Umbrella: Break out those rain boots. Spring is here and so are the showers. Although we had sunshine all weekend, we will have rain all day today. According to the National Weather Service, the rain will continue into the afternoon with highs in the 40's. The rain is expected to stop around 1:00 p.m.

2. Craving a Meat Pie? If you did not get to see the RFH spring musical this weekend, you missed out! The Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street featured more than a few “sharp” performances. Over 100 students have been preparing for the musical since December. The show ran from March 18-20 and the cast and crew of the show out-did themselves this year. The detailed costumes, un-real set and outstanding acting left over 1,500 audience members in awe throughout the weekend. 3.  Local Creates Race: When Janet Clapp of Fair Haven was diagnosed with breast cancer, members of her church, provided meals and emotional support during a difficult time. When she got healthy again, Clapp said she decided to pay it forward -- by raising money for cancer research. An avid runner, she chose to create a 5K race, and found many in her church willing to help out. In it's second year, the race has grown to 250 runners and walkers -- 70 more than last year. 4.  Calling all Couch Potatoes: Get off your bums! Couch Potato to 5K Class is open only to Fair Haven adults who want to get in shape. The class starts off very easy and progresses until everyone completes an actual 5K race in the area. This running class is a perfect way for you to have fun and get healthy at the same time! The class is a 12-week program that meets on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. Classes meet at McCarter Park and participants run on the streets of Fair Haven in preparation for the race. The cost is $32 for the program and it promises to change your life.

5. A Knitter or Not? If you are a knitter, you should check out the knitting corner for adults in the Fair Haven Library. The group meets at 1:30 p.m. to meet fellow knitters, share tips and check out the new books. Not a knitter? They also have a nice selection of DVD's available for 2-day rentals. The library offers some of the newest releases and some blasts from the past. You can also request movies and they will order them from the Monmouth County Library or purchase them for the collection. The library also has a foreign film collection along with many noir thrillers, popular TV programs from HBO, Showtime, and the BBC.
