5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 24

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here's a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Grab your umbrella: And take your time on you morning commute as roads may be slippery. This gross rain/snow/sleet/hail combination is expected to continue into the morning according to the National Weather Service. Rain and snow are likely before 9:00 a.m. followed by a chance of rain between 9am and 2pm. The rest of the day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Little or no snow accumulation expected and you can expect a much dryer weekend. 

2. BOE Business: Budgets were approved at both the Fair Haven and Rumson Board of Education meeting last night. The Fair Haven BOE approved a $12.2 million dollar budget for the 2011-12 school year, which calls for a tax levy of $11.8 million for residents. The BOE over in Rumson approved a $14.8 million budget which also creates a tax increase for residents. The budgets now await the public’s vote, which is scheduled for April 27, 2011.

3. Half-Marathon Men: Congratulations to Shawn and Brian Lenahan who ran the on March 17th. The father-son team from Fair Haven successfully ran the 13.1 mile race representing Covenant House. Covenant House is a non-profit organization that helps support homeless teens and runaways across the United States. "They serve as a great inspiration for other families in Fair Haven, and across New Jersey, to take action and promote social advocacy as a family unit."  said  Jane Burke, public relations coordinator at the Covenant House. 

4. Rocking Out: Students from Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) are hosting a classic rock concert at the school to help raise money for a foundation that creates and sustains music programs in underfunded school systems throughout the country. The proceeds will go to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. The concert is calledand will take place on Thursday, March 24 in the Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School auditorium from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Admission will be $10 at the door.

5. Wine and Savings: Stop at on River Rd. in Fair Haven on your way over to the concert. Shop, have a glass of wine and receive 50% off all winter merchandise and 25% off all home furnishings.
