5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 13

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Get Some Sun in Today: According to the National Weather Service, today will mostly cloudy, with a high in the mid-60's. Southeast wind between 5 and 11 mph. Tonight will have patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. Enjoy the little bit of sun you can today because this weekend is expected to be full of clouds and rain.

2.  Breast Cancer Prevention: The Christine Meredith Miele Foundation hosted a cocktail party on May 12 at Danny's in Red Bank to raise money for breast cancer prevention, educate their guests about avoidance and create awareness for the foundation's mission. Guests paid $75 to enjoy a cocktail party with passed hor' dourves, music and friends. 3.  Green Day: The Rumson Department of Public Works (DPW) is hosting a "Green Day" this Saturday behind Bourough Hall by the DPW garage. They have an outside company coming to shred residents old papers. Have old desktop computers or box T.V. sets lying around and don't know what to do with them? Bring them to the Green Day! The crew will be accepting computers, televisions, radios and other electronics to recycle appropriately. Everything is free and will take place from 8:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.

4. Wetlands: What Good Are They Anyway? Wetlands are much more than those unknown muddy places that seem to produce an inconvenient barrier from one place to another. According to George M. Aronson, they are an essential part of life. Aronson is a photographer from Morristown who specializes in nature, scenic and landscape photography. His photographs have been featured prominently in a wide variety of publications and presentations such as National Geographic. Aronson was at the Church of Nativity on Wednesday night and spoke to about 30 people at the MCAS's monthly meeting. 5. Jewish Humor: According to the Congregation B'nai Isreal in Rumson, "There’s a reason why satellite radio plays Rabbi Bob Alper’s comedy bits several times daily -- he's fresh, funny and has a unique background--he is an ordained Rabbi." Head over to Congregation B'nai Israel on May 15 to check out what they are talking about.  Rabi Alper will be there for an afternoon of Jewish humor. The event is open to the public, advance tickets are $18 for members and $20 for non-members. Tickets at the door are  $22 for members and $25 for non-members. The show starts at 3:00 p.m.
