Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:
1. Cloudy with a Chance of Goals: According to the National Weather Service, today there will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. There is a chance of showers throughout the day with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. East wind between 6 and 8 mph. Tonight, the showers and thunderstorms continue with a low around 58. Make sure to bring a raincoat if you are planning on going to the RFH Boy's Lacrosse Semi-Final Shore Conference game today at Jackson Liberty High School at 4:00 p.m.
2. Going Green and Moving on to Flat Screens: Rumson Department of Public Works encouraged residents to go green this past Saturday during the department’s second Green Day event featuring a recycling drive paid for by a grant provided by Clean Community Program. Residents on bikes and in cars lined up Saturday morning behind Borough Hall by the DPW garage beginning at 9 a.m. to recycle their old televisions, computers and unneeded documents and papers in an environmentally friendly manner. 3. It's Tough to Be a Mom: Writer and mother of four, Samantha Parent Walravens, teamed up with River Road Books on Friday night for a reading from her new book TORN: True Stories of Kids, Careers & the Conflict of Modern Motherhood at Navoo Grill in Fair Haven. The book is a compilation of essays from over 40 writers on the highs and lows of motherhood -- from the balancing act between work and home to picking Cheerios up off the floor -- compiled by the Rumson native who is a fomer editor of PC World magazine. 4. Music to Our Ears: The REAL Jersey Shore's Lauren Mattia produced a Patch video this week about Fair Haven's Sounds at Sunset Concerts. 5. Working on a Dream: A fifth grader from Wyckoff, New Jersey is “Working on a Dream” to bring Rumson resident Bruce Springsteen into school for show-and-tell. You see, Macie Sparozic has this teacher who happens “to be the bestest ever” as well as a major Springsteen fan.
