5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 4
A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:
1. April Showers: According to the National Weather Service, showers are likely throughout the day today. There will be a high around 59 degrees. The showers could continue into the night, so make sure you bring an umbrella with you just in case. The evening will be mostly cloudy with a low around 43 degrees.
2. New Faces: The newly elected board members were sworn into office at the (RFH) Board of Education meeting on May 3. For the 2011-12 RFH Board of Education election, there were 3 people running for three open seats, two of which were incumbents. The incumbents who were re-elected are Jane Pattwell of Rumson and Lisa Waters of Rumson. One newcomer was voted onto the board: Charles (Chuck) Volker of Fair Haven. 3. Re-org Meetings Tonight: Interested in meeting the newbies on the Board of Education in the Rumson or Fair Haven school district? You are in luck. Both school districts have a re-organization meeting to night. Head over to the Media Center at the Knollwood School on Hance Rd at 8:00 p.m. to meet the new Fair Haven board members. Or go to the Higgins Library at Forrestdale at 7:30 p.m. to meet the new Rumson board members.
4. Race to Nowhere: The Rumson Country Day School (RCDS) will host a SOLD OUT screening tonight ofRace to Nowhere, a film about how a trend toward intense academic pressure is affecting the health, happiness and future success of today's schoolchildren. This documentary showcases the importance of critical thinking in the classroom rather than memorization for standardized testing. A discussion will be held after the screening with Thomas Pearson, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Monmouth University, and Pete Righi, Superintendent of Rumson-Fair Haven High School. 5. Pink Champagne: Local women decked out in their best pink attire attended a Pink Lecture and Champagne Cocktail Event at the in Fair Haven last night. The event was part of the Paint the Town Pink initiative, sponsored by Riverview Medical Center to help raise awareness about breast cancer. The women joined Donald Cugini, M.D. and John Taylor, M.D. for a lecture on breast cancer and reconstructive surgery. In addition to experiencing an educational evening, the ladies enjoyed Hors d'oeuvres, a pasta station, dessert, Pink champagne and refreshments.
