A "Hip" Change at a Fair Haven Consignment Shop
Local consignment shop changes hands and its approach to second-hand shopping.
Shoppers sipped wine and tasted cheese while they tried on clothes and checked out the art at In-Style Vintage on Thursday evening.
Kathleen Slavin, the new owner of the consignment shop, hosted the event and offered 25 percent off all winter items.
The store offers clothing for women, children and men, as well as accessories and home furnishings.

The store was formerly called The Attic and was owned by a Fair Haven favorite, Melanie Selick. Slavin reopened the shop under its new name in December. Slavin says that she respects Selick for building such a successful business and stays true to her loyal customers, but wants to bring a new, fresh feel to the shop.
Slavin says the new shop is “much hipper” with more items.

After renaming and designing the shop at 772 River Rd. in Fair Haven, she focused on getting a wider variety of items in the store to draw a diverse audience.
Her approach is “a little bit of everything” to appeal to everyone.
“Consignment shops are so much more acceptable,” said Slavin. “Now there are a lot more young people shopping here. If something great comes in, they are going to come right in and grab it!”
Slavin said things do not stay long in her shop, “I have customers who come in every week to check out the new stuff.”
Although there is plenty to spend on, you can also bulk up your wallet while at In-Style Vintage. Bring in your gently in-season used clothes, accessories, and home furnishing to sell at the shop. Slavin splits the profit 50/50.
Slavin is currently looking for navy blue blazers, communion dresses, and small pieces of furniture.
The Shop is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00-4:30 p.m. You can bring in items to sell Tuesday through Thursday only. The store is closed on Mondays.
