A Rumson Family Finds Unity in Pipes and Drums
Atlantic Watch is a Scottish band that prides itself of family values.
Susan Boyce is the proud mother of five musicians in the Atlantic Watch Drums and Pipes band.
The band plays traditional Scottish music at parades, festivals and community events. The family tradition started when Kevin Stone, Susan's husband, joined the band 12 years ago. Atlantic Watch is a free organization to join and practices at the River Street Primary School in Red Bank.
Shortly after, his son Corey, 22, and step-daughter Eleanor, 18, decided they wanted to learn how to play the bag pipes as well. Three years ago, his step-son William, 16, joined the band as a bass drummer and this year the band will add two more members of the family to the 60 musicians. Twins Maggie and Lizzie, 12, will play the drums with the band for the first time at the Belmar Parade this Sunday.
