Local Girl Scouts Raise Money to Support Japan

Local Girl Scout Troop 1220 raised money for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in at the Fair Haven Baseball Opening Day event on April 2.

"We had a total of $335 in donations which was amazing!" said Sharon Mikolajczyk, Troop 1220 mother.

They sold donated Girl Scout cookes, asked for donations in exchange for a baked good and charged 50 cents to guess how many jelly beans were in a jar.

"We were so excited to raise money for the American Red Cross," said Mikolajczyk.

Japan is a country very close to the hearts of the members of Troop 1220 because prior to the devastation, the group did a lot of research about the country. "Our troop learned about Japan and did a Karate presentation at the GS International Night in January." explained Mikolajczyk. "This was a great way to carry over their learning of Japan and raise some money for the devastation that the country is experiencing."
