Fair Haven Baseball Spends a Night With the Blueclaws

Youth players got to meet the pros, enjoy the game and raise money for the league at the same time.

Members of Fair Haven Youth Baseball (FHYB) enjoyed Family Night at the Lakewood Blueclaws stadium on July 7 when they faced the Kannapolis Intimidators.

“It’s a really fun night and a great fundraiser,” said Anthony Mazzucca, the secretary of FHYB.

FHYB is a league supported by the borough recreation department. It is made up of players ages 5 through 14. Players and their families were encouraged to sell tickets for the game. A portion of the proceeds from the night goes towards the program.

“All the money we get goes right back into the program. Either through equipment, improvements to the field and facilities, and whatever we have left over will go towards starting up the next year,” said Mazzucca.

Mazzucca said that ticket sales from Thursday nights game raised over $1,700.

The league not only got to enjoy the game, but also got to go onto the field for a parade.

The team that sold the most tickets out of the whole league also got to participate in the Future Blueclaws program. The winning team was the Diamonds. The 10-year-olds got to stay on the field after the parade, warm-up, sit in the dug-out and get a close-up view of the teams as they warmed up and stand next to the players during the National Anthem.

The two top individual sellers got to throw out a first pitch. Anthony Mazzucca, 13, and Keegan Woods, 10, were the lucky winners.
