Fair Haven Agenda: Smoking Ban, Sidewalk Cafes, Riverfront, Fireworks

The regular Fair Haven Borough Council meeting is Monday night

Fair Haven's Borough Council is meeting at 7 p.m. tonight and the agenda is flush with issues that have been broached before.

Some conversations will be continued and other issues will are slated for resolution. 

• It was at the last meeting that the notion of banning smoking in public places, or at least parks, was brought up.

• When it comes to sidewalk dining, the governing body is all for it. However, officials have discovered that there is a grandfathered piece of an ordinance that has made it a bit unintentionally restrictive.

On the subject of sidewalk dining as well, looks like Umberto and Fairwinds Deli applications are up for approval by resolution.

• The formalities surrounding Fair Haven Day, such as sanctioning fireworks and making an exception to serve alcohol on public property for the one special day are up for approval as well.

• Steps are being taken — in the form of authorizing the execution of what is a matching grant agreement between the state Department of Environmental Protection's Blue Acres program and the borough — to move forward with the acquisition of what is known as the DeNormandie riverfront property for public passive recreation.

• The municipal budget, which brings with it a zero tax hike for the sixth year in a row, is slated for adoption.

• And the pilot borough plan to have summer hours at Borough Hall, with a late night on Thursdays and .
