Letter to the Editor: Finding Bailey

When a local family lost their pet on July 4, the surrounding community came together to get the word out and bring the pup home.

A 5-month-old golden retriever was returned home after being .

The 30-pound, light blonde golden retriever named Bailey got scared by the fireworks on July 3 and ran off into the night on Deep Hollow Drive near Navesink River Road in Middletown.

Aaron Montano, one of the dogs owners, wrote the following in an e-mail to Patch Editor Noel Aliseo about his experience:

With the help of family, friends and the local communities (Rumson, Middletown, Fair Haven, Atlantic Highlands) we were able to get the word out about Bailey and were able to bring her home.

She spent four days traveling from Navesink River Road and Deep Hollow to end up 2.5 miles away at Sherry Gross’ house in Hartshorne Woods. Sherry had seen fliers posted and received emails from Mark Sullivan to know what Bailey looked like.

Around 4:00PM on July 7, Bailey’s 5-month birthday, Bailey showed up at Sherry’s home and wanted play with her dog. Sherry noticed Bailey and brought her inside where she notified the family.

It is also worth noting that one of Bailey’s relatives traveled from the Freehold area to help look for Bailey. The Golden Retriever’s name was Hope, a tracking dog, and had caught Bailey’s scent and was ½ mile into Huber Woods looking for her when we received the call.

In addition to Sherry Gross, the family would like to extend a special thank you to Veronica and Heather Brothwell, Robert Heyburn, the Sheridan’s, Ally Foulks, Adam Montano, Mark Sullivan and Norma Caesar. Amy and Aaron can not thank everyone enough for your help, support and prayers to bring her home to us. Words can not explain how much she means to our family.
