Municipal and County Council Candidates Released; Two Council Seats Open in Both Boroughs
Candidates file to run for seats on the Rumson borough council, the Fair Haven borough council, and the Monmouth County Borough of Chosen Freeholders.
By 4 p.m. Monday, April 11 all candidates have filed to participate in the upcoming election year. And on the borough and township level, not much change is expected.
In Rumson, there are 2 council seats up for grabs. Both Council President Shaun Broderick and Councilman Ben Day's term is up at the end of the year. Both Republicans, Broderick and Day, are seeking re-election. Philip Wagner, a Democrat, is seeking his first term.
In Fair Haven, there are two open council seats as well. Councilmembers Koch and Banahan’s terms expire on December 31, 2011. Councilman Banahan has decided not to run for re-election. However, Republican Jerome Koch is seeking re-election. Republican Susan Sorensen is seeking her first term. "No petitions were received from the Democratic party," said Allyson Cinquegrana, Fair Haven Borough clerk.

Burry’s running mate will be Gary Rick, of Spring Lake, while Mallet’s will be William Shea, of Howell. Democrat Michael Steinhorn, of Rumson, will look to unseat Republican Monmouth County Surrogate Rosemarie D. Peters.
Primary elections will take place on Tuesday, June 7, and the general election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
