Oceanic Bridge Closed Off to Traffic 'Until Further Notice' and Reopened
The moveable drawbridge span was stuck in the upright position.
If you reached the Oceanic Bridge entrance Tuesday evening and found it was cut off to vehicular traffic, know that it is open again after about a six-hour closure.
The bridge, according to Rumson's website, via a tweet from Councilman Ben Day, was reopened at about 12:30 a.m.
Rumson police early Tuesday evening sent out an email alert advising residents that the bridge, which connects Rumson and Middletown, "will be closed from now until further notice." After the moveable, or drawbridge, section became stuck in the upright position, police said they blocked it off.

The incident occurred at about 6 p.m., according to the notice. Monmouth County offices were closed at the time, so no one was available there to comment on a reason for the apparent mechanical problem.
Police in dispatch said they had no idea what had happened to cause it, either.

The bridge has been stuck in the upright position before because of debris being stuck in the drawbridge gears.
The drawbridge part of the bridge, technically called the bascule span, recently underwent a major overhaul and re-opened about a year ago, after several months of being closed for the repairs.
