Waiting for Balderose's Fine Foods Again

Details are sparse about the closure of the new eatery in Fair Haven.

If you've found yourself having a hankering for some of the fine foods that have become your BFF since the long-awaited opening of Balderose Fine Foods, you'll have to stave off that yen until Oct. 1 — or later.

A sign on the darkened doorway of the only months-old eatery says it all. The place is closed temporarily due to financial reorganization.

The River Road shop closed recently seemingly out of the blue. Then came the sign and a similar business "restructuring" note on the Balderose Facebook page.

Upon opening, with Anthony Balderose, the cafe's namesake, as the chef and an owner/operator, his wife, Judy, and Shrewsbury residents Bill and Kathy Dodge and Mark and Laura Feaster were all partners in the enterprise. Dodge is also a Shrewsbury councilman. There has been no mention of what, exactly, the restructuring means.

An anticipated April opening was put off about three times due to unanticipated renovations and other issues. The eatery opened in early May.

The notice on the door does not promise an Oct. 1 reopening. "It is our intention to re-open on Oct.1," it says.
