8 Crashes, 5 Assists As Snow Blankets South Brunswick

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A winter storm blanketed the Township with snow on Friday, as the Department of Public Work crews worked throughout the day to clear the roads.

As of Friday evening, South Brunswick received about 3 inches of snow, township officials said.

Overall, traffic was light as most schools and some businesses closed for the day. However, the police department did have to deal with crashes and calls for assistance.

Here are some of the numbers for the day:

  • Motor Vehicle Crashes: 6
  • Crashes with Injury: 2
  • Motor Vehicles Assist (Stuck in snow): 5
  • EMS Calls: 7
  • Fire Calls: 2

Most major roads in the Township are clear and the condition of many side roads is improving. Motorists have been advised to use reduced speeds when traveling.

Temperatures will rapidly drop into the teens late Friday night and any untreated roads will become icy and dangerous, the National Weather Service said.

Here's the forecast for the weekend:

  • Saturday: Areas of blowing snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 24. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
  • Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Northwest wind around 10 mph.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 29. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 13.
