Coordinated Effort: Here’s How South Brunswick Responded To The Storm

Public Works, Police and OEM worked through the night to remove dozens of fallen trees and responded to numerous calls for service.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A state of emergency went into effect in New Jersey Tuesday as a winter storm dumped rain across the region, including in South Brunswick.

The South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management had prepared for the event, putting in place plans to ensure residents were safe during the winter storm.

The Police Department, Fire Departments, and Public Works responded to numerous calls for service after the storm began on Tuesday, officials said.

The OEM also worked through the night to coordinate efforts and secure assistance as needed. Road closures due to flooding, trees and utility poles down, and wires in the roadway were safely facilitated and staffed.

The Township’s Public Works Department worked diligently through the night and all day to cut and remove dozens of trees, officials said.

Calls were made to utility companies to attempt to restore power to homes with power cuts.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the various Township departments, there were no major road closures despite severe rain, flooding and downed trees and wires.

The local police department, OEM, and Public Works are continuing to do what needs to be done to restore the Township to full service with no road closures. As of Wednesday afternoon, the following road remain closed to traffic due to trees and wires down in the roadways:

  • Riva Avenue at Davidsons Mill Road
  • East New Road between Ridge Road and Monica Way
  • White Pine Road between Davidsons Mill Road and Church Lane
