Hazardous Weather Outlook, Flood Watch Issued For South Brunswick

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Forecasters are predicting severe thunderstorms and fierce winds on Monday for South Brunswick.
Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, through the evening, with the possibility of hail and damaging winds, according to Accuweather.
Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. This weather will continue into Tuesday, where more showers and thunderstorms are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

A flood watch is also in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, the NWS said.
South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management has advised residents to secure any loose outdoor furniture and monitor the weather conditions throughout the day on Monday. Those who have outdoor activities Monday afternoon should have a plan to move to a safe location should severe weather hit the area, the OEM said.

Showers and thunderstorms are already entering the area Monday morning, but the main event is expected to travel from west to east starting at 2 p.m., with the greatest severe thunderstorm potential to come after 4 p.m., the weather service said.
Here's the forecast for the next few days:
- Monday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph. Tonight, showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between midnight and 3 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 a.m. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog between midnight and 3 a.m. Low around 65. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the evening.
- Tuesday: A chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m. Patchy fog between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. On Tuesday night, showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m., then a slight chance of showers. Low around 65. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Wednesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
