South Brunswick Prepares For Stormy Weather: Power Cuts, Flooding

Route 1 may be forced to close down this evening if flash flooding occurs, the OEM said. Here's what to expect:

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A powerful storm is set to hit New Jersey Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

As Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency, local officials are preparing for the upcoming storm.

The South Brunswick Office Of Emergency Management (OEM) has asked residents to limit any travel during the evening and overnight hours.

Along with heavy rains, the OEM said they expect high winds, flash flooding and stream flooding.

  • Road Flooding - based on previous storms, The OEM said residents can expect flash flooding on several roads.
    • Route 1 / Raymond Road may force the closure of the entire highway sometime this evening. If that happens the highway will be closed from Ridge Road to Route 522.
    • Deans Lane under the train bridge.
  • Power Outages - High winds may take down trees causing power outages.
