Stray Cat Tests Positive For Rabies In South Brunswick

This is the second rabid animal reported in South Brunswick this year.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A stray cat that came into contact with a resident near Griggs Drive has tested positive for rabies, South Brunswick health officials said Friday.

The cat was brought to a local veterinary clinic for evaluation on Wednesday after showing signs of illness and was euthanized. South Brunswick Animal Control took the animal to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing.

The State Laboratory confirmed on Friday that the cat tested positive for rabies. This is the second rabid animal reported in South Brunswick this year.

The South Brunswick Health Department continues to monitor rabies cases within the municipality and is urging residents to take precautions.

Residents should report wild animals displaying unusual behavior to the Police Department and avoid contact with all wild animals. Anyone bitten by a wild or domestic animal should immediately report the incident to the South Brunswick Health Department and seek medical attention.
