8 Bit Rocks Stony's for SOMS Fundraiser

The band played and the fans stayed

Stony’s provided the food and venue, and SOMS students and families provided the enthusiastic audience as eighth-grade band 8 Bit brought the tunes.

Thursday evening was South Orange Middle School night at Stony’s, with the restaurant donating a portion of proceeds to the school. On the patio, volunteers did a brisk business in school t-shirts and car magnets, while families and fans gathered to eat and listen to the band.

8 Bit, formerly known as Plaid Giraffe, features Jack Goldberg on bass, Sam Gomberg on drums, Simon Pettigrew on guitar, and Lara Phillips on vocals.  The band played covers and an original song, “Radiance in a time of Confusion.” The band has played for classmates previously, at SOMS Lunchapalooza.

First-row fans, visible in the video, provided energy and excitement. “It was a real concert, but better,” said an eighth grade fan who declined to be named. “You could eat fries too and listen to the music. And it was good for the school.”
