Accused Spy and SHU Alum Mikhail Semenko Pled Guilty
Semenko pled guilty; he left the country on Thurs.

, pled guilty in New York on Thurs. to failing to register as foreign agents. In addition, Mikhail Semenko, who operated in the United States under his real name, admitted to being an agent of the Russian Federation. Semenko acknowledged that he is a Russian citizen, according to the Justice Department.
Semenko's role in the larger spy ring was, according to court documents, to allegedly communicate with a Russian government official via computer.
Semenko and the other accused spies left the country on Thurs. night.

Semenko, a former graduate student at Seton Hall University, has left a long virtual trail of information about his life in the United States. The FBI "complaint" or indictment against eight of the defendants paints a fuller picture of their lives here; the indictment against Semenko will be unsealed sometime after his arrival in New York.
