Don't Let Obesity Lead to Diabetes: Take Control with Education and Lifestyle Changes This American Diabetes Alert Day

New research highlights the struggle with weight loss medications – The Molly Diabetes Education and Management Center offers sustainable solutions for long-term health.

With American Diabetes Alert Day approaching on March 25, 2025, the Molly Diabetes Education and Management Center for Adults and Children urges individuals, especially those struggling with prediabetes and obesity, to prioritize diabetes prevention and treatment through education, nutritional counseling, and exercise. Recent studies reveal that over half of individuals with obesity (without diabetes) discontinue weight loss medications within a year, underscoring the need for sustainable lifestyle changes.
"Long-term success requires a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of prediabetes and obesity and empowers individuals to make lasting changes to their diet and activity levels," says Molly Center Dietary Coordinator, Michelle Newman MS, RDN, CDCES.
With an estimated 96 million American adults—more than 1 in 3—having prediabetes, many of whom don’t even know it, the Molly Diabetes Education and Management Center can help offering comprehensive programs tailored to individual needs, including:

  • Diabetes Education: Learn about the link between obesity and diabetes, risk factors, and how to make informed decisions about your health.
  • Nutritional Counseling: Develop personalized meal plans and learn healthy cooking techniques to manage weight and prevent diabetes.
  • Exercise Programs: Discover enjoyable ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine, improving overall health and well-being.
  • Support Groups: Connect with others facing similar challenges and build a strong support network.

American Diabetes Alert Day serves as a critical reminder that diabetes is preventable for many. The Molly Diabetes Education Center emphasizes that sustainable weight management through education and lifestyle changes is crucial, especially in light of the challenges highlighted by recent research on weight loss medication adherence.
