As soon as the first local kid says, “There’s nothing to do,” summer’s dog days are here. Just in case that sounds familiar, South Orange Middle School librarian Elissa Malespina has listed the most popular reads from the school library. The list might be a good starting point for kids who have worn out old favorite reads, or for those away at camp who could use a good book.
This year, the books most often borrowed were:
1. The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

4. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series by Rick Riordan
5. Boy in the Stripped PJ’s by John Boyne
Malespina knows that her serious readers can whip through five books on a rainy weekend. “Check out this website which has the list of books recommended by both the public librarians and the middle school librarians,” she says. “It is a great list of books and offers many great suggestions."
