Lessons in Living Green
South Orange Resident Tulani Thomas Has Authored Book, "TuTu Goes Green" Educating Children and Parents About Living Environmentally Conscious.
South Orange resident Tulani Thomas has recently published the children’s book, “TuTu Goes Green,” a book dedicated to helping children and parents educate themselves about green living through the adventures of a little girl who learns how to incorporate environmentally conscious living into her daily life.
“Encouraging our children to care for the Earth, as early as possible, is an important step in nurturing an environmentally aware generation,” Thomas said.
“Children become so accustomed to daily routines and are also ecstatic when they see their efforts are helpful to adults,” she said, adding, “TuTu harnesses an innate willingness to contribute by teaching children that greening their daily routines can actually help the entire planet.”
The book teaches children the importance of, and how to, live green through the eyes of a character named TuTu. Through the website, tutusgreenworld.com, and picture book, “TuTu Goes Green,” children and parents follow the adventures of TuTu on her quest to spread the message children can contribute to saving our environment.
In the book, children will learn small changes to their daily routines such as recycling old notebooks, turning out the lights and using reusable shopping bags can play a huge role in helping the environment. The book also introduces the significant roles that planting trees, using organic materials and limiting the use of running water play in protecting the planet.
Thomas, a former corporate attorney, is now a stay-at-home mom turned author with two children. She decided to create a website and series of picture books to teach children the importance of living a green life after realizing other children and parents could benefit from the same lessons she tries to pass on to her own children. Inspired by her passion to reduce, reuse, and recycle and the willingness of her own children to embrace these themes, Thomas created TuTu’s Green World.
