National Night Out is Tonight - So Come Out!

This is a free event, held at Floods Hill, on Tuesday

National Night Out (NNO) returns to Floods Hill on Tuesday, August 2, from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. The free event features a public safety fair, live music, kids' activities, including a bounce house, and the movie "Toy Story 3."

This is South Orange's second NNO, after last year's successful evening, when as many as 600 people attended. Nationally, NNO is is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. Its goals include: generating support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthening neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and sending a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The event is a collaboration of several Village entities, including the South Orange Police Department, the South Orange Police Benevolent Association Local #12, the South Orange Fire Department, and the South Orange Rescue Squad. Each will showcase their work during the public safety fair. The Police Department will do bicycle registration and kids' fingerprinting kits.  The Fire Department will conduct fire truck tours.  The Rescue Squad will do ambulance tours and blood pressure screenings.

Back by popular demand, local band Aisle Five will take the stage, while kids bounce in a bounce house, and try out face painting.

The evening will culminate with a movie under the stars. "Toy Story 3" will be shown on a giant screen, with popcorn and cotton candy provided by PBA Local #12.
