Panel Set for Charter School Information Session

Millburn invites surrounding districts — including South Orange-Maplewood — to a meeting to learn more about proposed charter schools.

The Millburn School District has lined up a panel for an informational discussion about charter schools to take place on May 9. The session is open to the public, and residents of surrounding communities are invited to attend. Brian Osborne, Superintendent of Schools for the South Orange-Maplewood School District, has indicated that district leadership will be present. The meeting will be held at the Millburn High School auditorium at 7:45 p.m.

The panel will include the superintendent of schools and two board members from Princeton Regional School District; Lynne Strickland, executive director of the Garden State Coalition of Schools; and the Millburn school district’s attorney. The panel will present information about the charter school process in New Jersey, how the schools are funded, and current legal and legislative updates regarding charter schools. There will not be a question-and-answer session for the public, but board of education members from Millburn and surrounding communities will be in the audience to ask questions.

Osborne told Patch, "I will attend to listen and learn." Osborne is not on the panel nor does he plan on making any remarks. He does anticipate that some members of the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education will also attend.
