Police Blotter: Assaults, Robberies in South Orange
The following arrest information was supplied by the South Orange police department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Fraud/Arrest
Aug. 25: Darlene Cone, a 48-year-old Irvington resident was arrested on Aug. 24 at her home after a detective bureau investigation found she was involved in cashing stolen checks belonging to another South Orange resident.
Assault

Aug 25: A man reported on Aug. 23 at around 10 p.m. he was walking north on Ward Place when he was assaulted by a juvenile black man.
The victim said the suspect was walking in a group of approximately 10 other black men and had punched him in the face as he walked by for no apparent reason. The victim reported the incident on Aug 24.

Trespass/Arrest
Aug 25: A juvenile was arrested on Aug 23 at approximately 6:50 p.m. after a Ralston Avenue resident contacted police about five juvenile black youths entering his neighbor’s rear yard.
When police arrived, the youths fled, but one Newark youth was caught and arrested for trespass. He was transported to police headquarters and processed.
Burglary
Aug. 25: A 43-year-old Orange resident wanted by South Orange police for two burglaries was arrested by alert Orange police who saw him on an Orange street on Aug. 24, police said.
Eric Pemberton was arrested on Aug. 24 at approximately 9:20 a.m. for allegedly committing two South Orange burglaries in May and June of 2010 involving Our Lady of Sorrows Church as well as a Stanley Road home.
Pemberton is currently being lodged in the Essex County Jail.
Theft from vehicle
Aug. 25: A victim said between 4:45 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. someone entered his unlocked 2004 Cadillac, which was parked on First Street and removed a large amount of cash left in the center console.
CDS/Arrest
Aug 26: Lateef Are, 19, of South Orange resident was arrested on Aug. 25 for smoking marijuana.
Are was arrested after he was seen smoking marijunaon on the campus of Seton Hall university in a parking deck. He was processed and released.
False Identification/Arrest
Aug 29: Courtney Hickox, 19, of Burlington, Mass. was arrested on Aug. 29 at approximately 2:30 a.m. for having an open container of alcohol and possession of a false driver’s license from Pennsylvania. She was processed and released.
DWI/Arrest
Aug 29: Schkenzie Therlonge, 27, of South Orange, was arrested for DWI on Aug. 27 at approximately 5 a.m. after police stopped him for erratic driving.
Therlonge was given a sobriety test and was arrested. He was processed and released.
Theft from vehicle
Aug 29: A Hall Court resident said sometime overnight on Aug. 25 someone entered her 2006 Toyota and removed two GPS units. There were no signs of forced entry.
Theft from vehicle
Aug. 29: An Edgewood Terrace resident said sometime overnight on Aug. 25 someone had entered his vehicle and removed a pair of sunglasses, some change and an iPod. There were no signs of forced entry.
Criminal mischief to vehicles
Aug. 29: The manager of Valley Auto Sales on Valley Street said sometime overnight on Aug. 25 someone had scratched the hoods and caused damage to six vehicles in his lot.
Criminal mischief to vehicle
Aug. 29: A Walton Road resident said sometime overnight on Aug. 25 someone had damaged the driver's side door lock to his 2009 Infiniti. The car was not entered.
Criminal mischief to vehicle
Aug. 29: A victim said sometime overnight on Aug. 25 someone had thrown a large rock through the rear window of his 2001 Audi. No items were reported stolen.
Theft from vehicle
Aug. 29: A Walton Road resident said sometime overnight on Aug. 25 someone had entered his vehicle, ransacked it and removed a small flashlight. There were no signs of a forced entry.
Burglary to vehicle
Aug. 29: A Montague Place resident said sometime overnight on Aug. 25 someone had entered her unlocked vehicle and ransacked the interior. No items were reported stolen.
Theft from vehicle
Aug. 29: A Turrell Avenue resident said sometime overnight on Aug. 25 someone had entered his 2011 Mitsubishi and removed approximately $30 in cash. There were no signs of forced entry.
Robbery/Arrest
Aug. 29: Issac Capers, 19, of Newark, along with a juvenile, for an Aug. 28 Varsity Road robbery.
The victim said he was approached in his driveway by the pair, who demanded his money. While one suspect allegedly feigned having a weapon in his waistband, the other reached into the victim’s pocket and took his money. They then fled after the victim screamed out.
Officers saw the pair a few blocks away and arrested them.
Criminal mischief to vehicle
Aug. 29: An Elm Court resident said sometime during the overnight on Aug. 25, someone had damaged the driver's side door lock to his 2011 Infiniti. Entry was not gained.
Criminal mischief to vehicle
Aug. 29: A Warren Court resident said sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 26 someone had entered his 2008 Infiniti by damaging the driver's side door lock No items were believed to have been stolen.
Robbery
Aug. 30: Two victims, a man and woman, said on Aug. 30 at approximately 12:30 a.m. they were approached by two black men while at the bus stop on South Orange Avenue near Seton Hall University and robbed at gunpoint.
The victims said the robbers brandished a black handgun and demanded their property. The victims turned over their cell phones, a change purse and personal identification.
The suspects were both wearing hooded sweatshirts -- one was white with blue stripes and the other was dark blue or black.
One suspect is described as being approximately 5-foot, 8-inches tall.
The robbers fled on foot east on South Orange Avenue. The detective bureau is investigating.
Criminal mischief
Aug. 31: The doctor at a medical office located on South Orange Avenue near Seton Hall University reported sometime between Aug. 26 and Aug. 30 someone had broken the front window to her office and stolen two signs that were mounted on the front lawn.
Robbery
Aug. 31: A victim said on Aug. 31 at approximately 1:10 a.m. while walking east on Irvington Avenue near Tichenor Avenue, he was approached by two black men who attempted to rob him.
The victim said he was able to fight off the robbers and they eventually fled on foot south on Tichenor Avenue.
The victim said one of the suspects he believed had a black revolver in his hand.
The suspects are described as two black men in their late teens, both with thin builds and approximately 5'5" to 5'8". One suspect had thin dreadlocks and was wearing a do-rag-type cap. The other suspect was wearing a dark track style jacket. The detective bureau is investigating.
