Police Blotter: Thief Tracked by GPS; Arrests

A look at recent police activity

*James McMillon,  26, of Union was arrested on April 21. A Montrose Ave. resident reported that someone entered her residence through a basement window. Several articles of jewelry were taken along with an Apple Ipad. Officers responding to the scene and with the assistance of the victim were able to immediately track the stolen Ipad through its GPS tracking device.

Detectives were led to the area of Grove St. and Springfield Ave. in Irvington. There McMillon was placed into custody at the scene. Numerous articles of property belonging to the victim including the Ipad were recovered.

*A Vose Ave. resident stated that on April 20, an unknown actor(s) forced open the front door of her apartment by prying the locks open. The victim stated that she is missing a laptop and two articles of jewelry.

*An employee at 76 S.Orange Ave. reported that on April 20 at approximately noon someone came into her office and removed her shoulder bag. The victim stated that her bag was found in the stairway but her wallet was missing. The suspect individual is described as being a black male with a bald head and was seen wearing a red sweat jacket and blue pants.

*A South Orange business owner stated that on April 20 he walked into his office located on First St. and observed an actor in the kitchen area. The victim described that actor as a black male approximately 5"8" in height, thin build, a scruffy beard, possibly missing some front teeth and was seen wearing dark clothing and a multi-colored knit cap. At the time of the report the victim stated that nothing was missing.

*A South Orange resident stated on April 21 at approximately 12:15am that he was robbed at gunpoint by two juvenile actors as he walked west on South Orange Ave. adjacent to Grove Park. The victim described the actors as being black males approximately 16-17 years of age wearing dark colored jackets and jeans. One actor had dreadlocks, was wearing a gray Yankees cap and was in possession of a silver handgun.

Officers responding to the scene observed two individuals matching the description a few blocks away. The actors fled on foot through several yards before one of the suspect juveniles was apprehended. The subject arrested at scene, positively identified and processed accordingly.

Mohammad Yusuf, a 21 year old Orange resident was arrested on April 20 at his residence on White St. in Orange after an investigation revealed that he recently committed the burglary and theft from a dwelling on Valley St. The subject was subsequently charged with burglary, theft, conspiracy, possession of CDS, and resisting arrest.

A juvenile was arrested on April 19 after officers observed the invidual exit a liquor store on South Orange Avenue in possession of alcoholic beverages.
