Pool Greets Patrons with a New Scanner

Passes are now scanned by computer

As the temperature rises this holiday weekend, residents will find changes at the pool. Besides the work in front of the pool entrance, recreation ID’s, commonly called “pool passes” are being scanned by computer.

The scanners have a number of benefits according to Village Administrator John Gross. First is safety. “Everyone scanned in actually belongs there.  If an ID badge is not current, it will not verify,” explains Gross.

Second, “We will be able to gather very specific data regarding attendance. This can help with appropriate staffing levels in the future,” adds Gross.

And as a cost-saving measure, Gross explains that, “We will not need to produce badges every year;they can be just renewed since they have a barcode. This will save some $3,000 to $4,000 in supplies and a significant amount of aggravation residents experience each year when they wait on line.”

The scanners show pool staff a photo. Some patrons, children especially, are being asked to have a new photo taken at their convenience if the photo on the pass no longer resembles them. There is no charge for this.

As a reminder, the pool is open to all residents on July 4, whether they have a pass or not. Proof of residency is required.
