Rite-Aid Robber Arrested

A look at recent police activity

*Dewey Cuttino, 42, of Newark resident, wanted by SOPD for a robbery at the Rite Aid on June 8 was arrested in Newark by SOPD Detectives on July 14, at approximately 12:50 pm. 

SOPD Detectives spotted  Cuttino walking east on 18th Ave in Newark and attempted to stop him.  Cuttino fled from the detectives on foot, ran west on 18th Ave and south on Brookdale Ave. into the backyards where the detectives lost sight of him.  SOPD Officers set up a perimeter with the assistance of Newark PD and the Essex County Sheriff's Dept. 

Within a few minutes, officers at the scene located Cuttino hiding in a vacant house on Valley Street in Newark and he was arrested without further incident. Further investigation revealed that Cuttino also had two active criminal arrest warrants out of Irvington and Union.

A Tichenor Ave. resident stated that sometime during the night of July 11, someone entered her unlocked vehicle and removed a GPS unit, a wallet and a blue tooth ear piece.

* A Longview Rd. resident stated that sometime during the night hours of July 16, someone damaged the driver's side door lock of his car.

*Richard Wagner, 64, of Whiting N.J.,  was arrested on July 16 for DWI at approximately 3:00 a.m.  Officers responded to a call of a vehicle having struck a tree on South Orange Ave. adjacent to Seton Hall University. 

*A Chatham resident reported that on Thursday, July 14, at approximately 2:45 pm, his vehicle was stolen while it was parked in front of 390 Valley Street.  The victim got out of his vehicle to help his brother who was parked (in another vehicle) in front of him.  When he turned back around a minute later his vehicle was gone.  The vehicle's keys were in the ignition at the time of the theft.


*A resident of Village Road reported that on Thursday, July 14, at approximately 2:30 am, he heard a car door slam shut in front of his residence, but when he looked out from his window, the vehicle was gone.  In the morning, the resident noticed that his flower pot had been smashed.  The resident stated that his neighbor told him that he had chased two actors from the area around the same time as he had heard the car's door slam.  

* A Mews Lane resident stated that his vehicle was stolen on Wednesday, July 13 between 8:15 and 8:50 pm, while it was parked on Sloan Street. 

* The owner of Harder Locksmith, located on South Orange Ave. reported that on Wednesday, July 13, at 4:10 pm, someone entered his store, reached into the cash register and took about $40.00 in singles.  The suspect, described as a 16 year old, black male, wearing a blue shirt, then fled the scene heading west on South Orange Ave.

*A South Orange resident reported that on Wednesday, July 13, at approximately 4:30 pm, someoneremoved his cell phone and ipod touch from his backpack, which was on the ground at side of the court while he was playing basketball at the Baird Community Center.


Warrant arrest
Keith Simon, a 42 year old Tucson, Arizona resident was arrested on Friday, 7-15-11 at 2:25 am after Officers responded to So. Orange Ave. and Ridgewood Rd on a call of a man reportedly standing in the middle of the street yelling at vehicles and possibly attempting to hitchhike.  During the field interview, it was discovered that the subject had an active arrest warrant out of Maplewood.  Simon was arrested at the scene without incident and processed accordingly.
