Rite-Aid Shoplifter Nabbed; Counterfeit Shopper Caught

The following arrest information was supplied by the South Orange Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Deborah Charles, 20,of Maplewood, was arrested on Thursday, June 9 at approximately 6:30 p.m. after attempting to buy items from several stores with counterfeit money, South Orange police reported.
Charles' companion, Shakeema Daniels, 24, of Irvington, was arrested on an active warrant out of Irvington and was also charged with providing false information to police after lying about her identity during the investigation and field interview.

An alert South Orange Police Department detective is being credited with the arrest of a 28-year-old East Orange man on robbery charges, according to police reports.
Steve Malcolm, 28, of East Orange, was arrested and charged with robbery after he allegedly pushed his way past a store employee with items he didn’t pay for.
Police said Malcolm then got into a white van and drove away, along with a passenger. The detective followed in an unmarked police car as the car eventually stopped on Brookdale Avenue in Newark, where the arrest was made. The passenger fled and was not captured.
Malcolm also had two outstanding arrest warrants, police said.

A Church Street resident reported her apartment was burglarized late Thursday afternoon, South Orange police reported.
Police said the suspect forced a tool into the door lock and was able to enter the apartment. Once inside, the suspect was able to enter three bedrooms, police said.
