Seton Hall University Requiring Vaccination For Fall Semester

According to the University, about 90% of the members of the school community said in a survey that they were partially or fully vaccinated.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Seton Hall University, in South Orange, is requiring its whole community to be fully vaccinated before the start of the fall semester.

The school estimates that already a high percentage of its members have been vaccinated. In a survey sent out last month, 90 percent of respondents said they had had at least one shot.

In order to gauge immunization levels, the university is going to require that each of its members complete a confidential vaccine declaration.

Exempt from this policy are people who can't take the vaccine for religious beliefs, pre-existing health conditions, or personal reasons.

The announcement comes just a day after the CDC sent out new guidelines on the activities safe for fully vaccinated people to engage in with no masks.

"Yesterday's CDC announcement is a vivid reminder of the benefits that come with being vaccinated," a statement from the Univesity said.

In line with the university's Catholic values, the statement also referenced some of Pope Francis' words.

"The choice to be vaccinated, as Pope Francis has noted, is an act of loving concern for the health and safety of those around us," it said.
