SOMS Principal Makes Move to CHS, Then Retirement

Kirk Smith will leave SOMS

South Orange Middle School Principal Kirk Smith will be leaving his job at the school after 12 years on Sept. 1, 2011, according to an email sent to SOMS parents from Superintendent Brian Osborne on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the email, Smith plans to retire in the fall. Until that time, he will join the administrative leadership team at Columbia High School.

A new principal, not yet chosen, will begin the school year at SOMS.

According to the email,"Mr. Smith’s service as middle school principal has modeled principled and caring leadership for everyone in the school community. Please join me in thanking Mr. Smith for his dedication to SOMS and his ongoing commitment to students in SOMSD."

The email further notes: The district is committed to finding the best possible candidate to succeed Mr. Smith as principal of South Orange Middle School.  Any potential candidate can access the job posting and application online here.
