South Orange Bridge Honors Jonathan Felsman

The red bridge has a new name and nameplate

The red bridge that crosses the Rahway River along Meadowbrook Lane is known as "Jonathan's Bridge," and a new sign to that effect has been put in place.

Nearly a year after a committee was convened to consider the matter, the effort to honor the late South Orange resident Jonathan Felsman is complete.  A plaque on the bridge reads, "Jonathan's Bridge, Jonathan Felsman was a visionary who used his resources and talents to improve the quality of life in South Orange."

A bridge between the fields and Floods Hill was considered appropriate, according to the Naming Committee, because of Felsman's contributions to the Village's Open Space, recreation, and arts programs.

Speaking earlier this year to the Board of Trustees, Miriam Sumner, who served on the committee, said, "Now we can pay a lasting tribute to him. I think he would have been thrilled."  Felsman's cousin, resident Peri Smilow, added, "Jonathan believed in South Orange's children, public art, and its green space."
